The Voice of God

How does one know when they are hearing the voice of God instead of their own? I’m not dogmatic about the answer, but I believe that the difference is when God speaks He always does it in a way that brings Him glory and honor. The Bible says it this way, (i am paraphrasing) “my ways are not your ways and my thoughts are not your thoughts.” When God speaks He does always speak in a way that is understandable to the hearer. What I mean is, God has spoken in the past in various ways and many different manners. God is looking for obedience from the hearing not so much agreement with what has been heard. I have found that there have many times that I thought God had spoken to me only to find out that what I heard was a good idea of mine. I challenge you listen to the voice of God as you study His word, as you yield to the Holy Spirit, as you listen to possible messages He sends you through others. Let Him speak to you during your quiet time, and your prayer time.
Finally, when you hear the Voice of God, respond like the prophet Isaiah in the sixth chapter of the book that bears his name, “here I am send me.”
